Class of 2017 Jeannette K. Watson Fellows Taslim Tavarez and Shahrukh Khan will continue their Watson journeys with the support of prestigious national awards -- the Truman Scholarship and Fulbright Study/Research Award.

Shahrukh will head to India on a Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Grant, braiding his interests in public health, science and global advocacy. Collaborating with the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy in New Delhi, his research will focus on healthcare-acquired infections and the policies designed to prevent them.

As Pace University’s first-ever Truman Scholar, an honor that recognizes outstanding young people committed to public service leadership, Taslim received a $30,000 award for postgraduate study. She intends to focus her work on immigration law with the ambition to start her own non-profit organization.
