Reimagining the Refugee Experience: Sustaining Human Development in the Face of Displacement
Jordan, Germany, Rwanda, Tanzania, Thailand
While the refugee experience is typically characterized as a short-lived disruption, the reality of displacement poses long-term implications on individuals' lives. How might we sustain human development in the face of displacement? The best resource for reimagining the refugee experience is the insight of refugees themselves. During my Watson year, I will engage in solutions-oriented dialogues with refugee camp residents to derive solutions through collaboration and innovation. In this way the refugee experience can be transformed to foster opportunities for personal development, educational achievement, and vocational attainment.
