Using History: Memory and Reconciliation in Spaces of Conflict
Nicaragua, Guatemala, South Africa, Vietnam, United Kingdom
Guided by the overarching question of how we use the past, I hope to probe the contours of collective memory in communities that have experienced political and social strife in the 20th century. In each site, I will partner with local teachers and social organizations to conduct oral history interviews to better understand how communities remember or forget, and how in each site historical memory is used to begin the work of reconciliation.
