Blue Revolutionaries: The human experiences surrounding aquaculture in coastal and island communities
Norway, Scotland, Thailand, New Zealand
Aquaculture is often presented as the "blue revolution", ushering in an era of sustainable and environmentally conscious seafood. What is largely absent from popular discourse surrounding aquaculture are the human perspectives of the industry. In communities where traditional fishing has played a central role in economic, cultural, and social life, I want to understand how aquaculture has acted as an inclusive and exclusive force, incorporating new groups into seafood production and limiting others’ access to key natural resources. By exploring these nuanced human perspectives I hope to gain a more complete understanding of the effects of aquaculture in coastal and island communities.
