Shoulders to Stand On: Individual Growth and Community-Building through Social Circus
The Netherlands, South Africa,Canada,Chile
Social circus is a model that uses circus skills to help vulnerable populations change self-perceptions, build relationships, and access opportunities. During my Watson year, I will travel to existing programs in the Netherlands, South Africa, Chile, and Nunavut to explore how social circus uses kinesthetic practices to foster a sense of self, community, and social good. Using a skill exchange model, I hope to learn how these programs provide physical, psychological, and social transformations to individuals, families, and communities.
