The foundation of well-being: Technology design to secure safety and necessity
India, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma/Myanmar
In my Watson year, I will iinvestigate how technologies designed for function and accessibility can help break the cycle of poverty. This year, I plan to work on a number of products including a manufacturing system for cheap, durable roofing tiles made from recycled cardboard, attachments for modular all-terrain wheelchairs, and systems that remove biopathogens and dissolved chemicals from drinking water. I will use this year to design technologies that are locally accessible to people living in poverty and help increase access to physiological necessities and safety. This project ties together my desire to increase opportunity in the world with enthusiasm for technology design and clever, low-tech mechanisms.
