Exploring Grassroots Public Health Initiatives within the Ubuntu Shadow
Peru,Rwanda,Ethiopia,Thailand,Nepal
Ubuntu (I am because we are) is an African philosophy that manifests itself through various human acts. For my Watson year, I will explore the role socially motivated individuals and collectives take in grassroots public health initiatives. As an individual interested in global health, I will engage with people within different grassroots health initiatives in order to understand how they have been motivated to redefine and promote the well-being of others. I aim to further understand if there are parallels between public health values of prevention and promotion and the Ubuntu philosophy, which expresses interconnectedness.
