The Age of Reason crafted the notion of race through opposing binaries, defining blackness as a lack of beauty, morality and intelligence. Exploring contemporary Sub-Saharan African paintings, sculptures, and textiles, my year challenges these narratives by examining African Art that embraces love, honor, and creative storytelling through context, content, form and style.
