Inspired by the Chinese Book of Songs, my Watson year seeks to document and annotate the folk songs of six different language families -- Gagauz, Kalmyk, Yaghnobi, Kabyle, Penang Hokkien, and Yucatan Maya. Connecting with musicians and storytellers my hope is to represent their musical, linguistic and cultural diversity in a modern book of songs.
