Spaces for African Artists in the Diaspora
The United Kingdom, Greece, France, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Jamaica
Many African artists practice abroad far from their physical homes. However there is a figurative burden of “home” these artists carry with them -- especially when navigating predominantly Western artistic spaces. There is an expectation of how they should perform and who they should be based on their origins. How might these expectations be shed so that African artists may emerge and flourish in foreign artistic spaces?
