My project crosses the social, racial, and gendered boundaries of the boxing ring and engages local, national, and global interpretations of fight culture. Training with female fighters I will learn from trailblazers who fought past repressive sanctions, earning belts and titles while showing off their bruises with honor. I also hope to uncover the restorative powers of martial arts and boxing, and their healing possibilities in criminal reform and against gender violence.
