Declining Reefs: an Ethnographic Exploration
Australia, Belize, Federated States of Micronesia
Coral reefs are the canaries in the coal mine of a world wracked by climate change. Through interviews and participant observation I will explore the human cost of their decline. I will learn how conservation biologists cope with eco-depression, approach cross-cultural communication with local populations, and address conflicts of interest between locals and scientists.
