Experiences of Mental Abnormality
Finland, Belgium, Zimbabwe, Peru
Societal definitions of “insanity” and “wellness” vary across time and place. Those who conform to the norms of a particular era are granted the label of normality. Those who diverge from these standards are stigmatized. There is no global definition of pathology or normalcy, but rather a wide range of cultural interpretations of the human experience. The goal of my Watson is to explore the ways in which cultures comprehend and address mental abnormality.
