Adapting to the Rising Seas: Climate Change and Island Communities
Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Samoa, Ecuador (Galapagos Islands)
The effects of climate change are not felt equally around the world. Island communities are particularly vulnerable in the face of this global environmental crisis. During my Watson year, I will learn how island communities are adapting to different threats induced by climate change. What are the planned policy decisions and strategies? How does cultural and historical context affect these adaptation strategies? How do individuals see their own vulnerability and resilience? By engaging with local communities, NGOs, and environmental institutions, I seek to understand how people around the world take collective action to adapt to our changing environmental conditions.
